Despite living in the 21st century, there are still misconceptions about the possibility of menstruation and pregnancy. This is one of the superstitions that needs to be dispelled through proper information.
Myth 1: A woman cannot get pregnant during her first sexual intercourse.
False: When a woman (young) begins to ovulate, the body begins to prepare for reproductive function.
From the first menstrual period (menarche), a woman is as fertile as she is in later years and the chances of getting pregnant are the same.
Every woman should know her cycle and be aware of the first signs of hormonal changes in her body. But, above all, this personal knowledge should be accompanied by contraceptive care, if the young man's sex life is active.
The myth is so strong that in Mexico, due to a lack of contraceptive care, one-fifth of teenage girls become pregnant in their first sexual intercourse and one-third become pregnant within the first six months of having sex.
Sex Myth 2: There are safe days for a woman not to get pregnant.
False: There are no safe days to avoid getting pregnant. Many couples use the rhythm or Ogino Knaus method, keeping in mind that a woman is not a "perfect machine". Conditions such as illness, medication, stress, or infection, among many others, alter biological times in such a way that the ovaries may occur at unexpected times.
Myth 3: During menstruation, a woman cannot become pregnant.
False: Pregnancy during menstruation is detected when the ovum is formed at this stage of the cycle, therefore, no day or stage is safe.
On the other hand, experts advise avoiding unprotected sex during menstruation, as semen and blood are the sources from which microorganisms that cause diseases such as hepatitis, gonorrhoea, syphilis and HIV / AIDS are transmitted.
If the couple wants to have intercourse during menstruation, in any case, it should be at the beginning or end of menstruation when the flow is low. And always with protection.
Myth 4: During menstruation, you cannot and should not have sex.
Wrong: For some people, this can be unpleasant. However, some couples like it.
Many women are attracted to it because they feel more aroused, and during intercourse, it relieves pain, reduces inflammation of the breasts and abdomen. Also, it produces more intense orgasms.
